授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | The overarching aim of this course is to introduce the student to basic concepts, theories, and methodologies of comparative politics and in so doing, to enhance her/his ability to organize and conduct independent research projects on the subject. By the end of the course, the student is expected to acquire a solid understanding of the basics of comparative politics research. The course also provides the student with the opportunity to develop practical skills to evaluate research papers, compile and communicate to others independent academic argument, give presentations and write review essays. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | 1 Introduction Course Introduction Lecture: What Is Comparative Politics and How Is It Relevant? The course outline distributed in the first class includes a list of readings. Read the assigned materials for the week before class.
2 Introduction to the methodological issues Lecturer: Institutions, Actors and Ideas Lecturer: Lecture: Introduction to the methodological issues Read the assigned materials for the week before class.
3 Quantitative analysis Lecture: Introduction to Quantitative analysis (Green) Lecture: Research design, variables and levels of measurement (Green) Read the assigned materials for the week before class.
4 Quantitative analysis Lecture: Descriptive statistics and central tendency Lecture: Measures of dispersion Read the assigned materials for the week before class.
5 Quantitative analysis Lecture: Confidence and hypothesis testing Lecture: Interpreting quantitative research Read the assigned materials for the week before class.
