Goals of the Course [ENG]
【Standardized across all programs】 This course is conducted in the form of a seminar with small groups. We will provide multifaceted intellectual training focused on reading (literature research, consideration, examination), writing (summary, report writing), and speaking (discussion, presentation) as the most basic skills (common basic) for learning and studying at university. Through this, our goal is to learn the "process of knowledge exploration" and "the fun of learning" and to acquire the independent learning ability. A wide variety of themes are prepared according to the research field of the instructors.

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
Through discussions, presentations, and short essays, the course will assist students to acquire and improve their skills in academic reading (including identifying and collecting research materials, practicing critical reading, and evaluating arguments); writing (synthesizing arguments for a basic academic paper), and speaking (presenting and debating) in academic contexts, and to foster critical communication skills (which include the skills to ask hard questions and to express disagreement). By the end of the course, students will have acquired the skills and the habit to conduct research independently and the basic proficiency in communicating the research findings in speech and in writing.

Study Load (Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours)
Preparation: students are required to read chapters and articles and submit short assignments as indicated in the detailed syllabus disseminated in week one. Students are expected to take notes on the required reading and to prepare for in-class discussions. Students are expected to read any notices the instructor sends through TACT.
