Goals of the Course | | | This course will examine a range of gender-related topics in Japanese modern literature, including but not limited to the following: feminist movements, representations of women's bodies, pregnancy and childbirth, beauty standards in the age of neoliberalism, gendered violence, and intersections of gender with race and age. |

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan | | We will look at a number of modern and contemporary texts dealing with pregnancy and childbirth. A detailed schedule will be handed out on the first day.
W1-3: Feminist movements and women's bodies in modern history
W4-6: Pregnancy and childbirth from Meiji to Heisei
W7-10: Aesthetic labor and neoliberalism
W11-12: Gendered violence
W13-15: Intersections of gender, age, race
