Goals of the Course
This is an introductory course for learning and practicing the basics of research methodology used in cultural and historical studies.

Students will learn/review best practices for research, from finding a topic and researching academic sources, to writing a proposal and research report.

This course is continued in spring term ("Introduction to thesis writing"). JACS UG first year students must register for and complete both.

Course Content / Plan
Lectures will be given on basic principles of academic research, including finding and reviewing sources, and developing research questions.

Students will develop their own research project, producing an end-of-term research paper.

A more detailed syllabus will be provided on the first day of class.

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Evaluation will be based on submissions, participation, and final product. Details will be explained in the first class.
