授業の目的 【日本語】
Goals of the Course(JPN)
本授業の目的は、教育学を学ぶ上で基礎となる異文化コミュニケーション学の理論と実践を理解することである。本授業は、学部学生を対象として、個人レベルから社会レベルの異文化コミュニケーション上の問題を取り扱い、文化を多角的に捉える訓練を行う。授業の前半は、価値、アイデンティティ、規範など異文化コミュニケーションを学ぶ上で基礎となる概念や理論を学習し、後半では学習した概念に基づいて、実際の社会問題、教育問題を分析する練習を行う。本授業は、異文化コミュニケーション学の理論と実践の理解を目的としており、英語の学習を目的とした授業ではないため、受講者は、英語で授業を理解し、グループワークでインタビューやディスカッションを行い、レポートを書く力を有していることが大前提である。

Goals of the Course
This course aims to understand the theory and practice of intercultural communication in education for undergraduate students. This course handles micro to macro-level intercultural communication issues in education. Students deeply learn the intercultural perspectives in personal to social context. In the first part, students will acquire intercultural insights such as values, identities, and norms. In the second part, students will be able to apply these insights to real-world educational phenomena.

Objectives of the Course
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
The course consists of lectures, group discussions, and presentations. This course expects students to learn the basic ideas and theories of intercultural communication in education during lectures. This course expects students to apply these ideas and theories in real social contexts and issues during group discussions. Active participation with other students in the live sessions is crucial. Presentations in live sessions enable students to work in the intercultural context, and papers allow them to have academic writing ability. Additionally, this course provides additional materials to acquire those independent academic skills. Therefore, this course is suitable for undergraduate students who want to study in intercultural contexts and study abroad soon.

1st day
・Intercultural communication: Introduction

2nd-day
・How to do group discussions, presentations, how to write essays, Q & A session

3rd-day Culture and communication issues
・Cultural value pattern
・Verbal communication, non-verbal communication
・Cultural and ethnic identities (social identity)

4th-day Interpersonal issues
・Intercultural conflict
・Developing an intimate intercultural relationship (Altman theory)
・Intercultural competence

5th-day Social issues
・Cultural globalization
・Stereotype, prejudice, discrimination
・Intercultural contact, culture shock, intercultural adjustment

・This course offers in English for Japanese students, international students, NUPACE, and G30 students.
・This class is not aimed at learning English, and Japanese students must have the ability to read, listen, speak and write in English.

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Active participation 10%
1st Group discussion, presentations, and paper (500 words) 20%
2nd Group discussion, presentations, and paper (1,000 words) 30%
3rd Group discussion, presentations, and paper (1,500 to 2,000 words) 40%
The passing score for this course is more than 60%.

・This course is usually given face-to-face but online, depending on the situation.
・If online, the online meeting video conference tools, Zoom and Teams, will be used for group work and live sessions.
・TACT is used to upload lectures, slides, and group work materials.
・Students must do group work and attend live sessions for group presentations regardless of face-to-face or online.
