Goals of the Course
This course aims to read materials related to social science critically and acquire the ability to see and think from different perspectives through discussions in Japanese.

At the end of this course, participants are expected to:
- be able to read and understand columns and essays in newspaper articles on social science.
- be able to read and understand reading material about social thought.
- articulate his/her own point of view about social issues while making connections to related matters.
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
1. Critical reading using columns/essays from newspaper articles, etc.
To understand, critically read and discuss social issues.
2. Critical reading of materials about problems related to research misconduct.
To understand, critically read, and discuss materials on research misconduct issues.
3. Critical reading of texts related to social thought.
To understand, critically read, and discuss texts introducing the thinkers who formed social thought.

- Before the class, students must submit questions about reading materials.
- Students must submit the assignments after the class to describe their understanding.

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
Students who received an Exemption of Japanese language course in an International and exchange center are under-qualified to sign up for this course.
Students require Japanese proficiency level N2 or N1.
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
- attendance and contribution to class discussions ・・・20%
- assignment ・・・60%
- final examination (oral examination) ・・・20%
To pass,
- students must participate and actively express what they have understood in the class and their thoughts on the topics.
- students must show their understanding and critical opinions on the oral examinations and the assignments.

This course will be taught in Japanese. This syllabus is temporary. It may be altered due to the students' Japanese proficiency level. They are required to prepare and review each lesson. In addition to the lecturer's assignments, they are expected to carry out work independently.
