Goals of the Course(JPN) | | | 高度専門職業としての通訳者に必要な高い言語能力と優れた異文化理解を兼ね備え、国際社会及び地域社会の諸問題に対応するために必要な言語運用能力、および通訳技術の習得を目的とします。主に日英同時通訳の演習を通じて、単なる直訳ではなく、プロフェショナルな通訳技術についての知見を広め、将来、通訳者として実務に携わるための基礎知識と技能を養い、実践力を身に着けることを目標とします。 |

Goals of the Course | | In this course, students will aim to acquire the Japanese-to-English simultaneous interpreting skills required for qualified interpreters who will join the global professional community. Students will be encouraged to expand their knowledge of interpreting techniques to go beyond simple literal translation and develop skills and abilities required for bilingual professionals.
Course objectives include:
1. Interpreting/translating oral Japanese text into English with accuracy and speed.
2. Expand your vocabulary and improve your expressions.
3. Understand the purpose and benefits of interpreter training methods. |

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan | | この授業では、日本語から英語への逐次通訳で基本練習をしながら同時通訳演習を中心に行います。通訳の基礎的な訓練のための、パラグラフ・サマリー、チャンキング、サイト・トランスレーション、単語のクイックレスポンス、シャドーイング、リプロダクションなどを通じて、通訳技術の演習を行います。ウィスパリング通訳、同時通訳ブース内でのヘッドセットやマイクを活用した同時通訳にも挑戦します。ボランティア通訳者含め、様々な場面で活躍するために必要な通訳技能を習得します。また日本語や日本文化の基礎知識を含む実務通訳を視野に入れ、授業は以下のように進めます。
授業では、通訳メモ用のノート、筆記用具を持参してください。またスマートフォンで通訳録音も行うのでマイク付イヤフォンも持参してください。
1. 初回の授業では、ペアワークで、数分間程度の自己紹介中心のスピーチをウィスパリング同時通訳します。
2. 第2回目以降の授業計画については初回の授業で説明します。
3. 原稿のあるスピーチ、音声のみで原稿がないマテリアル、原稿があってもスピーカーが即興で話し出す、インタビュー形式の内容など、通訳の現場で実際に起きる様々な状況を想定し、通訳に挑戦します。
Course Content
While practicing the basics of consecutive interpreting from Japanese to English, this class will focus on simultaneous interpreting exercises. Students will be trained to orally summarize paragraphs, keep reading English while orally translating it into English (sight translation), practice input/output of technical terms, shadow Japanese audio material, reproduce phrases and sentences to improve retention and recall, perform consecutive interpreting, attempt whispered interpreting, perform simultaneous interpreting using a microphone and headset from the interpreting booth. Students will acquire the interpreting skills necessary to work in a variety of settings, including volunteer interpreting. Please bring a notebook and pencil to class for interpreter notes, earphones with a microphone as we will be recording interpretation.
1. On the first day, students will role-play as speakers/interpreters to whisper-simultaneously interpret the speech. Be sure to bring a notepad to take notes.
2. The course schedule will be presented on the first day.
3. Students will orally interpret audio materials with and without transcripts, presentations with off-script remarks and on-the-spot additions, and other conversations heard in the real world. |

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | 必須ではありませんが、通訳技術演習Ⅱaを履修することが望ましい授業の構成です。他研究科の学生も受講できます。
Students are recommended, but not required, to take Japanese-to-English consecutive Interpreting skills: Interpretation Skill Ⅱa. This course may be taken by students from non-Humanities graduate schools. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | 1.演習への積極性（無断欠席・遅刻・途中退出・早退をしない、課題の提出・質疑応答への参加率などで判定）50%
2.通訳のクオリティー（適切な語彙の選択・正確な文法・文章の趣旨を理解しやすい表現などで判定 50%
Students will be graded according to
1. The level of their participation. You will be marked down for skipping class without notice, arriving late, leaving early, failing to turn in assignments, no/little participation in discussion. 50%
2. The quality of interpretation: You will be marked down for grammatical mistakes and marked up for good choice of words/phrases and appropriate expression. 50 points.
Students must score a total of 60 points to pass. |
