授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | The purpose of this course is to understand the basic concepts of Cognitive Linguistics, with special reference to Japanese and English. |

到達目標 【日本語】 Objectives of the Course(JPN) | | 認知言語学の基本概念を理解し、それを言語分析に応用できるようにする。 Students will acquire the basic concepts of Cognitive Linguistics and apply them to linguistic analysis. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | Every class will start with an introduction to one topic in Cognitive Linguistics, which will be followed by a discussion on further examples. Topics to be covered include the following:
I. Cognitive view of linguistic meaning - Encyclopedic knowledge - Fictivity - Prototype
II. Networks of linguistic knowledge - Sense units - Traditional view of polysemy - Theoretical view of polysemy - Constructions
III. Crosslinguistic comparison - Language and cognition - Framing typology
IV. Iconicity - Iconicity in spoken and signed language - Sound symbolism - Ideophones |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Assignments + active participation (20%), take-home exam (80%) (A score of 60 or more will be considered acceptable.) |
