授業の目的 【英語】
Goals of the Course
This course will examine how identities are constructed, mobilized, negotiated and resisted through material objects circulated through consumer culture.

Even when they appear to be distant from global economic centers elsewhere, people’s lives in specific local spaces are intricately connected with the circulation of commodities and ideas beyond those places. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, students will acquire theoretical knowledge and skills to explore a range of themes in material cultural studies, such as consumer desires, commodity fetishism, affects, the private/public spheres and mobility.
到達目標 【日本語】

• Grasp key concepts and research frameworks in humanistic and social science research about people’s relationships with objects and their material surroundings in consumer culture.
• Identify and describe how various aspects of material culture – e.g. meaning making, construction of difference and identities, physical and emotional experience, collective impact – manifest in (or through) particular objects of consumer culture.
• Verbally present main findings in existing research on the course subject with confidence.
