This class aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution of modern law within the historical context of Japan, with a specific emphasis on the modernisation of the judicial system and the establishment of the legal profession. Additionally, the course seeks to explore the societal transformations brought about by the adoption of Western legal principles. Throughout this class, we will delve into the historical evolution of Japanese legal culture.

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Grades are based on class attendance and performance (60%) and the end-of-term report (40%).

Grading (pass/fail decisions and classification of grades) will be carried out in accordance with the evaluation criteria established by the Nagoya University Graduate School of Law in accordance with its curriculum policy.
