授業の目的 【日本語】 Goals of the Course(JPN) | | このゼミでは、主に実証研究を通じて、開発経済及びその関連分野についての科学的知識を学び理解を深めるとともに、自身の研究内容の発表とその議論を通じて、修士論文・博士論文を執筆するために必要なスキルを身に着けることができます。このゼミに参加するすべての学生は自分自身の研究について定期的に発表するとともに、他の学生の発表に対する議論に積極的に参加することが求められます。このゼミを履修する学生は、経済学及び計量経済学の基礎を理解していることが望ましいです。 |

授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This seminar aims to encourage students to gain new scientific knowledge and deeper understanding of development economics and related fields with an emphasis on empirial research so that students will be able to acquire necessary skills to complete their master and doctoral theses though presentation of own research and review by seminar participants. All students are required to make presentations of own research regularly and actively partipate in discussion of other students. It is recommended for students to understand basic economics and econometrics. |

到達目標 【日本語】 Objectives of the Course(JPN) | | このゼミを履修することにより、学生は研究論文を書き上げるスキルを身に着けることにより独立して学問的研究を行えるようになることが期待されています。学問的な研究に必要なスキルには、研究トピックの特定、仮説とふさわしい検証方法・データの提示、得られた結果の吟味と政策的インプリケーションを踏まえた議論が含まれます。中でも、修士論文・博士論文を完成させることに重点を置きます。 |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | Students are expected to conduct independent academic research by acquiring the skills to produce academic papers in this seminar. Those skills include identification of research topics, proposal of hypothesis with appropriate analytical methods and dataset, presentation and discussion of robust findings drawing policy implications. The priority is placed to encourage students to complete their MA and Ph.D theses successfully. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | The schedule is discussed and fixed at the start of each semester. The seminar consists of the introduction/orientation to empirical research and the presentations by all students on their own research plan/progress and related studies which are followed by discussion among participants and academic advice by the instructor. Some lectures on analytical methods may be added if necessary. Presentation materials must be distributed to all members in advance through e-mail. |

履修条件・関連する科目 Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | Registrations for development economics (the spring term) and international development economics (the fall term) as well as related courses such as basic economics and development macroeconomics/microeconomics are recommended. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | The presentation and progress of the research (70%) and participation in discussions (30%). Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grade for the criterion. |

教科書・参考書 Textbook/Reference Book | | This seminar does not use any textbooks. References will be introduced in the seminar or the office hour. |
