This course is designed for students to help them to start academic research and write papers at the graduate level. Students will learn the main topics for implementing academic research, including the way to start research, set research questions, select research methods, and collect data. In addition, the other topics covered for academic writing include the structure of a research paper, the writing process, the elements of writing, and vocabulary. The course introduces students to research skills, including the effective use of libraries and online resources, research methods, and field research. |
| | 到達目標 【日本語】 Objectives of the Course(JPN) | | | | 到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | Upon completion of the course, M1 students should be able to understand the fundamental skills necessary for developing a research proposal, implementing research, and writing a research paper. In addition, students acquire basic knowledge, history, and the current trend in the field of international educational development. |
| | 授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | In the first semester, M1 students will learn how to search and collect academic literature related to educational development and then read the basic literature on international educational development and cooperation. Students will choose a specific topic based on their research interests and prepare a paper on previous literature review work. Peer review work sessions will be applied among the students to review the literature review paper. Students will deepen their understanding of the topic through the interactive group discussion on their selected topics.
Academic research has an objective to clarify, and it is necessary to take an appropriate approach to pursue the question to clarify the research objective. Therefore, students will be expected to learn various research methods for each research objective. Examples of a quantitative method, a qualitative method, and a mixed method are demonstrated in the class. Students will choose a research method based on understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each analysis. At the end of the first semester, M1 students are required to prepare a research proposal and submit it as an output of the course.

Students will regularly report the progress of their master's thesis research projects and receive feedback and guidance from the instructor. Along with each research project, students will work on reading materials and writing comment papers every week to acquire basic knowledge, history, and the current trend in the field of international educational development. Students are expected to discuss the topics based on the reading materials proactively. |
