授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This seminar is designed to help students write a thesis in the field of political science and political economy. To achieve this goal, participants read and discuss recently published articles in top journals of political science and economics to obtain new insights into the topic of their interest. Participants also present their research progress and receive comments and feedback from the instructor and colleagues. |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | By attending this seminar, students will develop skills that will allow them:
(1) to construct an effective research design,
(2) to critically evaluate previous research,
(3) to conduct thesis and other independent, original research, and
(4) to deliver their ideas in the form of academic writing and presentations. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | In the first week, the instructor introduces the seminar and its objectives and structure. Then, the instructor will decide the reading assignments while considering participants’ research interest and thesis topic.
Starting from the second week, participants will present their thesis progress, discuss a recent publication that relates to their thesis project, or discuss papers that the instructor considers as important to improve participants’ general understanding of political science and political economy. Participants are expected to present their research progress at least once in a semester. |

履修条件・関連する科目 Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | No course is required to take this course, but students are expected to take or have taken Politics in Developing Countries and Lecture on Inclusive Society and State B (Quantitative Social Science). |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | (1) In-class discussion: 50%
(2) Research presentation: 50%
Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grade for each criterion. |

教科書・参考書 Textbook/Reference Book | | Reading assignments will be made available during the class. |

課外学習等(授業時間外学習の指示) Study Load(Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours) | | Students should develop their own research project and prepare for presentations and discussion. When discussing research by other participants, students should actively provide constructive comments and suggestions to their work. |
