授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This seminar is directed at first-year Master's students, research students and first-year doctoral students who did not graduate from the GSID Master's programme (participation is optional for doctoral students). Activities and discussions are designed to impart the basic academic skills and knowledge needed to prepare a research proposal and begin data gathering for a thesis or dissertation. |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | Students participating in the seminar will learn the basics needed to survive graduate school, such as how to make a proposal, decide on a methodology, gather data and write a literature review. each participant will be expected to give a research progress report once a semester and participate in peer feedback sessions. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | The specific week-to-week seminar content depends on the number of participants. As a general rule, the first half of the semester is directed at developing academic skills, while the last several weeks of semester are dedicated to progress report presentations. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Evaluation is based on active participation in the seminar sessions and the research progress report. Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grade for each criterion.
Registered students who are absent 5 or more times without documented reasons will receive an evaluation of W (incomplete, no credit) |
