授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | The objective of this course is to help students better understand politics in developing countries using the tools and theories of political science. To this end, this course covers a wide range of topics including modern state, democracy, dictatorship, determinants of democracy and dictatorship, democratic transition, consequences of democracy and dictatorship, parliamentary/presidential systems, elections and electoral systems, and social cleavages and party systems. Moreover, students are expected to understand and critically evaluate the various theories that are used to explain politics in developing countries. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | (1) Weekly talking points (25%): Before each class meeting, students submit their talking points on the readings.
(2) In-class participation (25%): Students have to actively engage with in-class discussion regarding the course materials.
(3) Presentation (25%): Students present a summary of course readings.
(4) Final paper (25%)
Notes: Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grade for each criterion. |
