The goal of this course is to understand the basic cognitive-linguistic issues in the analysis of metaphor and metonymy.

英語で書かれた専門文献を正確に理解する能力を養う。また、そこに書かれた分析手法を各自の研究に応用する可能性を探る。
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
毎回、受講生ないし教員が認知言語学の概観論文を10〜20ページほど解説し、その内容および発展的課題について議論する。論文としては、The Cambridge Handbook of Cognitive Linguisticsの以下の章を予定している。

Ch. 23: Opening commentary: Conceptual mappings (Eve Sweetser)
Ch. 24: Conceptual metaphor (Karen Sullivan)
Ch. 25: Metonymy (Jeannette Littlemore)
Ch. 28: Corpus linguistics and metaphor (Elena Semino)
Ch. 29: Metaphor, simulation, and fictive motion (Teenie Matlock)
Ch. 35: Computational approaches to metaphor: The case of MetaNet (Oana A. David)
Ch. 38: Linguistic patterns of space and time vocabulary (Eve Sweetser & Alice Gaby)
Ch. 39: Space-time mappings beyond language (Alice Gaby & Eve Sweetser)

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
教科書の解説および授業への貢献（30%）、期末レポート試験（70%）。
