Goals of the Course
This course provides the occasion to train the student to obtain the abilities to organize a joint research, to manage it jointly, to pursue assigned research and to conduct a cross-disciplinary joint research. A group of instructors continuously supervise and advise a student group. The target of Joint Research Workshop I is the development of a joint research plan. The instructors provide a big topic such as “sustainable development” (2013), “water management” (2014), “local governance” (2015), “urbanization” (2016) and the student group will decide a more specific research topic such as “Facilitating the Relocation of Mumbai Airport Slum through Deliberative Democracy” (2016). The student group will agree on the research plan, including the aim and structure of the joint research and the assigned research to each student. Through the reviews by the instructors, the research plan will be endorsed at the end of the spring semester. The joint research immediately begins based upon this endorsed plan.

External experts will also be involved in the supervision of students.
