専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的です。リスニングとスピーキングを主としたコミュニケーションの能力を高め，ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションのための基礎力を養成します。

Goals of the Course [ENG]
This course is intended to improve students’ skills in listening and speaking suitable for academic communication in English. Students will develop basic oral/aural communication skills for academic discussion and presentation.

Objectives of the Course [JPN]
リスニングとスピーキングを主としたコミュニケーションの能力を高める授業活動を通じて、ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションのための基礎力を身につける。

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
We will acquire basic skills for discussions and presentations through lesson activities that enhance communication skills of listening and speaking.
授業の内容や構成
Course Content or Plan
Before classes each week, students will watch and listen to news broadcasts and complete exercises to check their understanding.
During class, students will talk about the news and related ideas, both in pairs and small groups. Groups of students will also debate related ideas in class each week.
After class, students will write a response to the debate.

履修条件は要さない。
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
TOEFL-ITP 30%, e-Learning 20%, Independent language project 25%, Active participation 20%, Weekly quizzes 5%.

履修取下げの際に申し出を必要としない。５回以上欠席をした場合、「Ｗ」とする。

授業を未受講、または評価が「Ｗ」となった場合、次の期の単位補充クラスを受講できない。同じ科目を再履修できるのは次の次の期（1年後）になる。進級・卒業に支障をきたさないよう十分注意すること。「履修の手引き」の英語科目の注意事項を要確認。12月のTOEFL ITP受験が必要。
