Goals of the Course [JPN]
専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的です。そのねらいは，研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語を使いこなす能力を身につけるところにあります。学術的な英文に関するエッセイレベルのリーディング能力とライティング能力を養成します。

This course is intended to improve students’ skills in academic English necessary to study at a research-oriented university like Nagoya University. The course aims to develop students’ abilities in reading and writing at an intermediate level.

Objectives of the Course [JPN]
論理的な英文のカギとなるエッセイの構造に着目し、目的に応じて必要な情報をいかに読みとるか、また逆に、自分の考えをその根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかを学ぶ。将来、専門の論文を英語で読んだり書いたりする時に、指針となる英文構成法の基礎、および実際に役立つ英語表現を多く習得する。

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
The objective of this course is for students to develop writing skills for short essays with academic content, and to gain the level of writing proficiency needed for success at undergraduate level and in the professional world. Students will produce complete and logically coherent essays by employing the rules, structural forms, and development methods of formal essays. Supplementary activities will help students review and broaden their knowledge of academic vocabulary and phrases.

履修条件・関連する科目
Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
4月のTOEFL-ITPスコアによるレベル別クラス指定。ただし、Pre-Aコース編入試験で認定された学生はPre-Aコースへ編入される。また、英語（基礎）で「F」又は「W」だった場合、Bコースになる。再履修の場合もBコースのみ受講可。
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Portfolio 20%; Mid-semester assessment 15%; Final test 15%; TOEFL-ITP 30%; e-Learning 20%
履修取下げの際に申し出を必要としない。５回以上欠席をした場合、「Ｗ」とする。

授業を未受講、または評価が「Ｗ」となった場合、次の期の単位補充クラスを受講できない。同じ科目を再履修できるのは次の次の期（1年後）になる。進級・卒業に支障をきたさないよう十分注意すること。「履修の手引き」の英語科目の注意事項を要確認。12月のTOEFL ITP受験が必要。
