This course is intended to improve students’ skills in listening and speaking suitable for academic communication in English. Students will develop basic oral/aural communication skills for academic discussion and presentation.

授業の内容や構成
Course Content or Plan
This course concentrates on developing students’ listening and speaking skills. We work on understanding speech with greater accuracy and articulating thoughts with greater proficiency. After contemplating what makes for good conversation and good communication generally, we proceed to listening and discussion exercises on various topics, including food, film, music, and sports. As we practice expressing our thoughts orally, simultaneously we work on vivid description, effective explanation, and persuasive justification for our points of view. Students are expected to participate in classroom discussion and required to deliver a brief presentation as well as contribute to a final group project.

履修条件は要さない。
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
TOEFL-ITP 30%, e-Learning 20%, Class participation 10%. Presentation 20%. "Podcast" presentation and discussion 20%.
履修取下げの際に申し出を必要としない。５回以上欠席をした場合、「Ｗ」とする。

課外学修等
Study Load (Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours)
e-Learning教材の実施状況を成績評価の20％とする。Students are requested to complete assignments outside course hours. Students are expected to prepare presentations that contribute to constructive classes.

Notice for Students
授業を未受講、または評価が「Ｗ」となった場合、次の期の単位補充クラスを受講できない。同じ科目を再履修できるのは次の次の期（1年後）になる。進級・卒業に支障をきたさないよう十分注意すること。「履修の手引き」の英語科目の注意事項を要確認。12月のTOEFL ITP受験が必要。
