授業の目的 【日本語】
Goals of the Course [JPN] | | 専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的です。そのねらいは，研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語を使いこなす能力を身につけるところにあります。学術的な英文に関するエッセイレベルのリーディング能力とライティング能力を養成します。

Objectives of the Course [JPN] | | | 論理的な英文のカギとなるエッセイの構造に着目し、目的に応じて必要な情報をいかに読みとるか、また逆に、自分の考えをその根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかを学ぶ。将来、専門の論文を英語で読んだり書いたりする時に、指針となる英文構成法の基礎、および実際に役立つ英語表現を多く習得する。 |

Objectives of the Course [ENG] | | | This course introduces intermediate English composition, designed to build on foundational writing skills and develop students’ competencies toward an advanced level. Students will acquire the competence to plan and structure their ideas into a composition, and write three distinct types of essay: Argumentative, Cause/Effect, and Compare/Contrast. Furthermore, they will develop necessary writing mechanics and useful argumentation skills while learning to avoid certain logical fallacies when writing. |

Week 9 – Argumentative essay – final draft / Introduction to cause and effect essays / What’s a Cause/Effect Essay: Examples
Week 10 – Organization: Block Organization & Chain Organization / Slippery Slope Fallacy
Week 11 – Cause and Effect essays – peer editing and revising / Transition Signals for Cause/Effect Relationships
Week 12 – Cause and Effect essays – peer editing and revising / Introduction to compare and contrast essay / What’s a Comparison/Contrast Essay: Examples / Incomplete/False Comparisons

履修条件・関連する科目
Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | | 4月のTOEFL-ITPスコアによるレベル別クラス指定。ただし、Pre-Aコース編入試験で認定された学生はPre-Aコースへ編入される。また、英語（基礎）で「F」又は「W」だった場合、Bコースになる。再履修の場合もBコースのみ受講可。 |

成績評価の方法と基準

履修取下げの際に申し出を必要としない。５回以上欠席をした場合、「Ｗ」とする。 |
