専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的です。リスニングとスピーキングを主としたコミュニケーションの能力を高め，ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションのための基礎力を養成します。

Goals of the Course [ENG]
This course is intended to improve students’ skills in listening and speaking suitable for academic communication in English. Students will develop basic oral/aural communication skills for academic discussion and presentation.

リスニングとスピーキングを主としたコミュニケーションの能力を高める授業活動を通じて、ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションのための基礎力を身につける。

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
The aim of this course is to improve students’ communication ability mainly in terms of listening and speaking. It will help students develop their basic abilities with respect to daily conversation, discussions, and presentations. This class will focus on how to gather and present information about Japanese culture, as if the students were cultural ambassadors for Japan.

7. Unit 6: The Development of Relationships Between Humans and Animals (plus reading of Unit 9, Cats and Their Powerful Influence on Japanese Culture)
8. Unit 7: Changing Forms of Celebrity in Japan (plus reading of Unit 11, Human Rights and Japanese Pop Culture)

履修条件は要さない。
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Evaluation is based on e-learning (20%), the TOEFL-ITP (30%) 15% for in-class activity participation, 5% for the presentation proposal, 5% for the questionnaire, 20% for the final group oral presentation, and 5% for homework assignments.
履修取下げの際に申し出を必要としない。５回以上欠席をした場合、「Ｗ」とする。

授業を未受講、または評価が「Ｗ」となった場合、次の期の単位補充クラスを受講できない。同じ科目を再履修できるのは次の次の期（1年後）になる。進級・卒業に支障をきたさないよう十分注意すること。「履修の手引き」の英語科目の注意事項を要確認。12月のTOEFL ITP受験が必要。
