Goals of the Course [ENG]
【Standardized across all programs】 This course is intended to develop and integrate students’ abilities of basic knowledge of Japanese and expressions such as honorific language considered essential knowledge for business people in Japan. This course aims to help students acquire the communication styles and expressions required in Japanese business settings through roleplay exercise based on various themes. This course also covers basic knowledge of job hunting in Japan.

At the end of the lecture, students are to
(i) understand Japanese business cultu
(ii) be able to use appropriate expressions which are used for building better relationship in a
work setting.
(iii) understand the system of honorific language and be able to us
*Students also learn basic style of E-mails in Business occasion.

The semester will cover the latter half of the textbook as following:

Lesson 1: Review on polite forms, formal expressions, and business manners.
Lesson 2: Honorific Speech on the Phone
Lesson 3: Taking a Reservation
Lesson 4: Honorific Words in the Service Industry
Lesson 5: Offering Advice -part 1.
Lesson 6: Offering Advice -part 2.
Lesson 7: Honorific Words in Email
Lesson 8: Interim summary and evaluation.
Lesson 9: Undergoing an Interview -part 1.
Lesson 10: Undergoing an Interview -part 2.
Lesson 11: Conducing an Interview
Lesson 12: Giving a Report
Lesson 13: Presentation 1.
Lesson 14: Presentation 2.
Lesson 15: Summary and evaluation.

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
Class materials are designed for intermediate students.
In this semester the latter half of the designated textbook is mainly used. It is desirable that you have already taken Business Japanese I, but it is possible to take this course without it.
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Students who need the course credits are required to meet the following conditions:
Mid-term exam 20%, Quizzes 20%, Role-play and Presentation 30%, Final exam 30%[TOTAL 100%]
Students do not need to submit a Course withdrawal Request for course withdrawal.
*Attendance of at least 80% is required. For those who be absent from class more than 4 times, will receive
"W” grades.
*No attendance of the final examination leads to “W” grades.
*In the case of no submission of assignments and insufficient attendance rate, an “F” will be given even if you take the final examination.
