Goals of the Course [ENG] | | | 【Standardized across all programs】 The goal of this course is to understand how the Earth we live on has changed over the years to the present. The geological structure of the earth's surface, plate movements on a global scale, and various other phenomena occurring on the earth today will be explained. In addition, the developmental processes of the Earth's crust, oceans and atmosphere, and the evolution of the biosphere, which are closely related to these processes, will be explained. We will also consider the future of the global environment in relation to the anthroposphere based on past changes in the global environment. |

Objectives of the Course [ENG] | | | The goal of this course is to understand how the Earth we live on has changed over the years to the present. The geological structure of the earth's surface, plate movements on a global scale, and various other phenomena occurring on the earth today will be explained. In addition, the developmental processes of the Earth's crust, oceans and atmosphere, and the evolution of the biosphere, which are closely related to these processes, will be explained. We will also consider the future of the global environment in relation to the anthroposphere based on past environmental changes. Besides providing a basic and up-to-date knowledge of essential concepts of earth science, the aim of this course is to stimulate the interest and curiosity of students for the study of planet Earth and provoke questions, comments, and discussions about issues related to earth science. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | 3 quizzes: one third of total grade each
(1) Each quiz is composed of multiple-choice questions and short-answer questions
(2) Students will be graded using the six-step A+, A, B, C, C-, and F grade evaluation system (A+: 100-95%, A: 94-80%, B: 79-70%, C: 69-65%, C-: 64-60%, F: 59 % or less).
(3) A student withdrawing from the course needs to do so by mid-November to receive an “Absent” grade. This deadline does not apply to students who drop the class part-way through for an exceptional reason (e.g., illness, accident). Also, NUPACE students should check the deadline set by the NUPACE program for course withdrawal.
(4) The quizzes cover the material learned in class and explained in notes and slides provided during each lecture. The files of the notes and PPT slides are uploaded every week on TACT. |
