到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | Upon completion of this course, participants are expected to have: (1) attained a general understanding of the subject of International Relations and International History; (2) attained familiarity on various theoretical concepts to analyze global issues; (3) become able to provide a coherent presentation and discuss in a critical and academic manner. |

(4) Japan, China and the Origins of the Pacific War, 1900-41 (ch. 3)
(5) The Path to European War, 1930-39 (ch .6)
(6) The Second World War, 1940-45 (ch. 7)
(7) The ‘First’ Cold War in Europe, 1945-61 (ch. 8)
(8) Asia in Turmoil: Nationalism, Revolution and the Rise of the Cold War, 1945-53 (ch. 9)
(9) From Cold War to Détente, 1962-79 (ch. 10)
(10) The ‘Developmental States’: Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, 1945-2024 (ch. 13)
(11) The People’s Republic of China and North Korea: Ideology and Nationalism, 1949-2024 (ch. 14)
(12) The Arab-Israeli Conflict, 1948-2024 (ch. 17)
(13) The End of the Cold War and the ‘New World Order’, 1980-2000 (ch. 19)
(14) US Decline in a Globalized World? (ch. 22)
(15) Questions and final evaluation through a written exam.
Each class will begin with a student presentation, followed by a class discussion. Participants are required to complete the weekly required reading, participate in class discussions and give a presentation. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Evaluation will be based on the following criteria.
1. Contribution to class discussions: 30%
2. Quality of presentation: 30%
3. Quality of end-of-term exam: 40%
The above criteria will be added up to compile your final mark. Benchmark for a passing grade: refer to the student handbook (C grade is above 60%). |

注意事項 Notice for Students | | It would be best if you can consult the textbook beforehand in order to choose the chapter you would like to make a presentation on. If several people want to make a presentation on the same chapter, we might have to sort things out at our first class so it will be advisable for you to think of 2nd and 3rd choices of chapters.
To NUPACE students: grading of this course is finalised in late August. If you need your grade earlier, you are advised not to take this course. |
