Class 1: Phase diagrams (Part II)
Class 2: Phase diagrams (Part III)
Class 3: Crystallography & diffraction techniques
Class 4: Crystallography & diffraction techniques (Part II)
Class 5: Microscopy, spectroscopy & electron microscopy techniques
Class 6: Microscopy, spectroscopy & electron microscopy (Part II)
Mid term exam
Class 7: Electrical properties
Class 8: Electrical properties (Part II)
Class 9: Electrical properties (Part III)
Class 10: Magnetic properties
Class 11: Magnetic properties (Part II)
Class 12: Optical properties, luminescence & lasers
Class 13: Optical properties, luminescence & lasers (Part II)
Final exam (comprehensive)

Conditions for Course Withdrawal | | | Withdrawal from the course is only possible before the intermediate exam (after the 6th class). Later withdrawal can only be granted for specific reasons like illness etc. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | "Grading will follow the rules for G30 students following the 6 letter system, A+, A, B, C, C-, F
maximum TOTAL 100% (= 100 pts)
Homework submission: 10% (= 10 points)
Presentation: 10% (= 10 points)
Mid term exam: 30% (= 30 pts)
Final exam (comprehensive): 50% (= 50 pts)
The presentation and both exams are mandatory! It is not required to pass either exam with 60 pts or more, to pass the course, a total of 60 pts or more is required.
Grades are final and calculated on the basis of the performances during class (homework submission), presentation, and the two exams only. There will be no possibility to improve a grade after the final exam. Students who miss the final exam due to a (documented) illness, injury or other unavoidable reasons can ask the instructor." |

不可(F)と欠席(W)の基準
Criteria for "Fail (F)" & "Absent (W)" grades | | | The course will be graded "F" (failed) if less than 60% of the total points were obtained. The course will be graded as "absent" ("A" or "W") if withdrawal was applied before the mid term exam, as stated in "course withdrawal" |

課外学習等（授業時間外学習の指示）
Study Load(Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours) | | | Students must prepare for a presentation and read literature related to their presentation topic. Every student will give one presentation of about 10 minutes. The presentation is part of the final grade (10%). Students will be assigned homework after every class and solutions to the homework questions will be provided in the following class. Students can ask questions about the homework. |
