By studying the relationship between language and cognition in the bilingual's mind, students will find an answer to the questions such as "does language change the way we observe the world?" and "does speaking two languages gives us any cognitive advantage?" |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | Every week, a discussion leader is asked to summarize an assigned academic article (or an academic article of their choice) and lead an in-class discussion. In the in-class discussions, students will be encouraged to present their own ideas clearly, to listen to others, and also to respect different ideas. Students will also complete a term paper with an original idea, based on readings covered in class and their independent research.

履修条件・関連する科目 Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | Because the lectures will be conducted in English, it is important that students have a good command of English. It is expected that students have a background in linguistics, psychology, and/or a related discipline in cognitive science. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | In-class contribution (30%), article summaries (3% * 10 = 30%), term paper (40%). A letter grade will be assigned based on students' absolute performance. If students miss five lectures, they will be officially considered "W." To pass, students must earn 60 points in total. Those who submit plagiarized work will face serious consequences, in accordance with the disciplinary rules of Nagoya University. |
