授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This course is designed to examine contemporary issues of international law from a perspective of involvement/contributions of Japan (or other States, if requested) to normative and practical developments of international law. The possible topics are Japan and the United Nations; Japan and Peace building; Japan and the rule of law in international communities and so on. |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | The course aims to afford extensive knowledge of international law for students to better understand current issues from a legal perspective. It will also aim to help students to develop their capacities to grasp situations with broad viewpoints and to discuss them in English. At the end of this course, students are expected to describe and evaluate the impacts of Japan to the formation of international law. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | This course will consist of a lecture part and a presentation part. The first part is composed of lectures concerning fundamental principles, rules and institutions of some areas of international law. Students are encouraged to participate in the discussion of the class and to submit comment papers at the end of each class. The second part consists of students’ presentations on their own selected topics. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Participation and involvement in class and comment papers: 30% Presentations in class on the topics by their chosen for a final paper (report): 30% Final paper (report): 40 % To get pass marks, students must obtain 60 points or more among 100 points. |
