授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | The primary goal of this course is to understand how countries in East Asia govern societies by law. We will use a comparative analysis. The instructor is the main source of legal information about Japan and participants are the sources of legal information of various jurisdictions. |

到達目標 【英語】 Objectives of the Course | | There are four objectives: 1. to enhance the understanding of how legal systems in East Asia work to produce better social governance;
2. to learn how to make comparison critically to achieve a deeper understanding of how the law works under unique social context;
3. to improve the briefing skill to explain how a legal institution works and to produce illustrations; and
4. to write a short paper that discusses one aspect of law from a comparative perspective. |

成績評価の方法と基準 Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | 30%: presentation and participation in the class, 30%: materials prepared by the student, and 40%: a short paper on a selected topic by each participant. |

教科書・テキスト Textbook | | A workshop on how to research through the Internet will provide the relevant information. The workshop includes training on how to find out relevant textbooks and references. |

参考書 Reference Book | | At each presentation by the instructor, there is a bibliography for participants. |
