Goals of the Course
This course aims to provide the students who join GSID Overseas Fieldwork (OFW) with basic information about the country of study, fieldwork methods, and data analysis methods. Students will be able to understand the field site situation and current discussion related to their research topics to get ready for the fieldwork. In 2025, students will conduct fieldwork in Cambodia.

Acquire skills to conduct interviews with various stakeholders.
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
The first half of classes aims to provide the background of the country of study and related topics in the field. Multiple joint classes with DFW aim to provide knowledge about research methods. In addition to the lectures, students are required to deliver two group presentations during the course.

Tentative schedule:
1. Introduction to OFW 2025 &Team-building
2. Introduction to Cambodia and the research site
3. Cambodia 1: Cambodian education and educational development
4. Cambodia 2: Cambodian society and culture
5. Cambodia 3: Cambodian agricultural cooperative and development
6. Cambodia 4: Cambodian political system and governance
7. Group presentation to share research interests
8. Research methods 1: Introduction for fieldwork & Simulation (Role-play) [joint class with DFW]
9. Research methods 2: Qualitative data analysis [joint class with DFW]
10. Research methods 3: Quantitative data analysis [joint class with DFW]
11. Research methods 4: Reflection of role play, interpretation, and report writing [joint class with DFW]
12. Research methods 5: Presentation and discussion [joint class with DFW]
13. Group presentation on the research proposal
14. Risk management
15. Khmer language lesson

Participation in discussions and group work 30%, Presentations 70%
Credit is given to C- or C (where applicable) or higher grades for each criterion.

Notice for Students
Those who are willing to take this course should attend the guidance at the beginning of April 2025.
All the students who join OFW are required to take this course for credits.
The fieldwork in Cambodia will take place in September 2025.
Classes will be given by resource persons both within and outside GSID.
Willingness and ability to work in a research team setting is a necessity.
