Goals of the Course(JPN) | | 【授業の目的】アジア諸国の都市化やそれに伴う災害に関する理論的、経験的理解を深めることがこの授業の目的である。都市社会学は欧米の都市を範例として発展してきた経緯があるが、アジア諸国の都市は欧米とは社会文化的、生態学的にかなり異なった性格をもち、都市化の進展も急速である。災害に着目した観点からアジアの諸都市の特徴や脆弱性を捉え、日本の都市社会や災害・防災の理解に役立てることを目指す。

Goals of the Course | | Objective
The purpose of this class is to develop a theoretical and empirical understanding of urbanization and associated disasters in Asian countries. Cities in Asian countries have a sociocultural and ecological character quite different from those in the West. This class aims to capture the characteristics and vulnerabilities of Asian cities from a disaster-focused perspective, and to help understand urban communities, disasters, and disaster risk reduction in Japan.

Course Content / Plan | | 【授業の構成】最初に都市化と災害をテーマとしたガイダンス的な講義を行う。その後、テキスト（Disaster Governance in Urbanising Asia）を講読し、アジア諸国の都市化と災害、防災の関係について討議する。テキストの概要は下記の通り。

6 Post-Disaster Reconstruction Models: The Governance of Urban Disasters in China, Iran and Myanmar (Helen James)
7 Nuclear Risk Governance in Japan and the Fukushima Triple Disaster: Lessons Unlearned (Pablo Figueroa)
【授業時間外学習の指示】授業開始時までに所定の論文を必ず熟読し、論点を整理しておくこと
| Structure of the seminar:
The lecture will begin with a guiding lecture on the topic of urbanization and disasters. Afterwards, we will read the text and discuss the relationship between urbanization, disasters, and disaster prevention in Asian countries. An overview of the text is as follows.

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | ・報告、ディスカッションへの貢献、期末レポートによって評価する。
・期末レポートは、社会学の観点からアジアの都市化や防災の課題を論じるものとする。
・ディスカッションへの「貢献」とは、テーマへの理解を深めるような問いや意見を発することを指す。
・報告30%、ディスカッションへの貢献30%、期末レポート40%で点数をつけ、100点満点で60点以上を合格とする。 | - Evaluation is based on presentation (30%), contribution to discussion (30%) and final report (40%). The score above or equal to 60 is required for credits.
- Theme of final report is to discuss challenges of urbanization and disaster risk reduction in Asian countries from the viewpoint of sociology.
- Contribution to discussion means making useful remarks on the issues. |
