論理的なリサーチ・ライティングのスキルをさらに高めること。大学院生が他の研究から引用し、先行研究を明確かつ説得力を持って書けるように、アカデミック・ライティングのスキルを身につける。

Goals of the Course [ENG]
The primary goal of this course is to further develop logically sound research writing skills. The course develops skills of academic writing to help graduate students incorporate sources into their writing and to write literature reviews clearly and convincingly.

参加者は、他の研究を引用し、自分の主張をサポートする方法を学ぶ。ビブリオグラフィー(annotated bibliography)を作成する。自分の研究とその分野で発表されている研究との関連について口頭発表を行う。受講生や講師とディスカッションを行う。

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
Participants will learn how to incorporate sources in their writing and use them to support their own arguments. Participants will make an annotated bibliography. They will deliver an oral presentation relating their own research to published research in their field. They will discuss course-related topics with other participants and the instructor.

Course Content or Plan
The assignments and discussion topics are intended to help participants understand and write literature reviews, as well as other elements of research writing.

Topics to be discussed include:

What is an annotated bibliography?
What is a literature review, and why is one necessary?
What is a thesis statement? How do I write one?
How can I use logical argument in my writing?
How can outside sources support my argument?
What is plagiarism? How do I paraphrase and summarize appropriately?
How should I prepare for an oral presentation?

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
The course uses group discussion among students and the instructor. For this reason, all participants must be able to communicate in spoken and written English.
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Participants who enroll for course credit are required to meet the following conditions: make an annotated bibliography; deliver one oral presentation; participate actively during seminar meetings. Evaluation is Pass/No pass.

Students who wish to withdraw must inform the instructor.

Study Load (Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours)
Participants need to complete course readings before weekly meetings (typically 2 to 10 pages in English), and complete all requirements described in "Course Evaluation Method", including preparation outside class time. There will be approximately seven (ungraded) quizzes due before class time.
