授業の内容や構成
Course Content or Plan
This seminar introduces Intellectual Property Basics through a planned, topic-by-topic progression. Each class focuses either on a different type of IP (patents, designs, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets) or on different aspects within one field (e.g., patents in software and data-driven innovation vs. patents in pharmaceuticals and life sciences). Through short cases and practical examples, students learn how IP defines the boundaries of lawful competition, rewards innovation and creativity, and shapes access to technology, culture, and information. The course emphasizes why these legal tools matter in society, including their impact on business strategy, public welfare, and the digital economy.
