授業の内容や構成
Course Content or Plan | | This course is composed of three parts. In the first part, we will use the textbook Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking to develop critical knowledge and skills in English communication. In the second part, we will practice communication skills using the movie The Intern by focusing on shadowing and role play techniques. In the third part, students will apply these skills in a movie analysis group project and give group presentations in week 13 and 14. To reinforce active learning, peer and group discussion will be actively developed.
Week 1 - Orientation (Introduction, icebreakers, goal for the course, review syllabus)
Week 2 - Unit 1: Healthy Lives (Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking)
Week 3 - Unit 2: Technology Today and Tomorrow (Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking)
Week 4 - Unit 3: Culture and Identity (Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking)
Week 5 - Unit 4: Let's Eat (Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking)
Week 6 - Unit 5: Inside the Brain (Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking)
Week 7 - Unit 7 Our Changing World (Pathways: Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking)
Week 8 - The Intern Unit 6 & 7 & 8 (Active English Through Movies)

Message from the Instructor | | Welcome to Academic English Communication!
This course is designed to help you develop academic English communication skills for discussions and presentations through a variety of class activities. My goal is for you to gain tools for English communication that you can use not only in this class but also beyond the classroom. Both English and Japanese will be used in this course.
To cultivate your overall English communication skills, it is important to expose yourself to English regularly. Please try to create opportunities to engage with English in your daily life such as listening and watching English news, podcasts, TED talks, or English movies.
