紀元前15世紀から紀元後6世紀にかけて、古代西アジアとおよび地中海世界に君臨した中央集権国家や帝国の国家間通信に関する学術論文集を精読することで、当該分野の専門書を読むための基礎的な学力と知識を習得することを目的とします。

Goals of the Course
This course aims to provide students with the foundational academic skills and knowledge necessary for reading scholarly literature on state correspondence in the centralized states and empires of the Middle East and the Mediterranean and the 15th century BCE to the 6th century CE.

英語で書かれた古代史の専門書や学術論文を読むための基礎的な能力や手法を習得し、論理的思考力や学術的文章の執筆方法を身に付け、卒業論文作成に向けて足掛かりを作ります。
授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan
この授業では、Radner, K. (ed.) 2014, State correspondence in the ancient world : from New Kingdom Egypt to the Roman Empir, New York, Oxford University Presを精読し、国家間通信が地理的に広大な国家システムの成功と安定を確保する上で果たした役割を検討します。

毎回テキストを輪読し、参加者全員による議論、教員による解説を交えて進めます。

2. Egyptian state correspondence of the New Kingdom : the letters of the Levantine client kings in the Amarna correspondence and contemporary evidence / Jana Mynarov
3. State correspondence in the Hittite world / Mark Weeden
4. An imperial communication network : the state correspondence of the neo-Assyrian empire / Karen Radner
5. The lost state correspondence of the Babylonian empire as reflected in contemporary administrative letters / Michael Jursa
6. State communications in the Persian Empire / Amelie Kuhrt

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
課された章の講読（40%）、発表（30%）、授業への積極的な取り組み（30%）を総合的に判断し、100点満点中60点以上を合格とします。
