授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | | This is an introductory course for learning and practising the basics of research methodology used in cultural and historical studies. |

授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | Students will learn/review best practices for research, from finding a topic and researching academic sources, to writing a research report. Lectures will be given on basic principles of academic research, including finding and reviewing sources and developing research questions. Students will complete a variety of in-class exercises and short writing assignments, designed to practise and develop their research and writing skills in effective, practical, and engaging ways.
Topics include: • What is academic writing? • What is critical thinking? • The basic structure of an academic paper • Finding topics and research questions • Sources and methods in cultural and historical studies • Library workshop • How to read books • How to take notes • Research integrity (references, rules, plagiarism, AI) • How to revise your paper
This course is continued in Spring term ("Introduction to Thesis Writing"). JACS UG first-year students must register for and complete both. More details will be provided on the first day of class. |
