Goals of the Course
This course continues "Intro to Research Methods for Culture and History" (Fall term), which is a prerequisite for taking this course. Students will continue to learn and refine university-level research and academic writing skills. By the end of the term, students should be prepared for success in JACS specialised classes.

Course Content / Plan
Building on last term’s "Introduction to Research Methods for Culture and History" course, this course asks students to read, analyse, and contextualise a range of sources (e.g., primary and secondary) and develop key academic reading and writing skills. Students will also complete a variety of in-class exercises and writing assignments designed to strengthen their research and writing skills in effective, practical, and engaging ways. The class will combine lectures and discussion.

Topics include:
• What is an argument
• How to quote effectively in academic writing
• How to use Word for academic writing
• How to develop research proposals
• How to write literature reviews
• How to present your research and its findings

JACS UG first-year students must register for and complete this course. More details will be provided on the first day of class.
