授業の内容や構成 Course Content / Plan | | This course consists of lectures and structured group discussions, supported by interview-based group work and academic writing workshops. Students learn key concepts and theories in culture and psychology through short lectures and pre-class videos. In class, students apply these concepts to real-life social contexts and issues through guided discussions and peer interviews. Students summarize and share discussion and interview insights using Google Docs, and the class engages in cross-topic integration discussions. Two in-class writing workshops support the development of academic writing skills. Active participation in in-class interaction is essential. Additional materials are provided to support independent academic learning. Therefore, this course is especially suitable for undergraduate students who plan to study abroad in the near future, as well as for those who have recently returned from studying abroad and want to deepen and reflect on their intercultural learning experiences.
Typical Module Flow (Modules 1–3)
Each module follows a repeated learning cycle: (1) pre-class videos and a short lecture to introduce key concepts, (2) structured group work with peer interviews, (3) brief sharing of discussion and interview insights on Google Docs, and (4) integration discussions that compare and synthesize ideas across topics. Two modules include in-class academic writing workshops with peer review (500-word and 1,000-word papers). Modules 1–3 are covered during Weeks 2–12.
Module 1: Culture and the Self
• Individualism and collectivism
• Self and identity
• Enculturation
Module 2: Psychological Processes in Cultural Contexts

• Culture and social behavior
Module 3: Intergroup Relations and Cultural Adaptation
• Theories of intergroup relations
• Stereotype, prejudice, discrimination, and categorization
• Intercultural contact, acculturation, and sojourner adjustment
Final Project (Module 4)
In the final project (Weeks 13–15), students select one topic from Modules 1–3 and develop a research question, two key concepts, and 3–5 open-ended interview questions. Students conduct a final round of interviews and share results for cross-group synthesis. Students then complete a final reflection paper based on a course-wide integration discussion. |
