Goals of the Course
This course aims to read social science materials, understand them clearly, identify the main points, write summaries in Japanese, practice paraphrasing sentences in Japanese, read academic essays, analyse them and write academic essays.

Objectives of the Course
The goals of this class are to acquire: 1) the ability to accurately understand texts in the social sciences, 2) the ability to extract the main points of a text and summarize them in Japanese, 3) the ability to rephrase the content in appropriate Japanese, 4) the ability to analyze the structure and logic of academic essays, and 5) the ability to write academic essays in Japanese based on the results of the analysis.

1. Critical reading using columns/essays from newspaper articles, etc.
2. Reading and understanding materials about problems related to research misconduct
3. Obtaining the main points of articles
4. Writing summaries in Japanese
5. Peer evaluating summaries
6. Practising paraphrasing sentences in Japanese
7. Reading academic essays
8. Analysing academic essays
9. Writing academic essays

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
Students who received an Exemption of Japanese language course in an International and exchange center are under-qualified to sign up for this course.
Students require at least Japanese proficiency level N2.

To pass,
Students must participate and actively express what they understand from class and their thoughts on the topics.
On the final examination, students must demonstrate their understanding of the article's main points and their paraphrasing skills.
