What roles do International Organizations (IOs), such as the United Nations or European Union, play in international society? The purpose of this seminar is for students to learn basic ideas and concepts to analyze IOs from the political perspective and to be able to utilize these ideas and concepts for considering global issues. |

(2) acquire the skills to read academic articles critically;
(3) analyze global issues based on the evidence by utilizing the ideas and concepts that this lecture deals with; and
(4) logically argue their opinion and make constructive comments to others' opinion. |

- The content may change according to the needs and interests of students. A detailed syllabus will be distributed in the first class. Please contact me if you cannot attend the first class.
- The basic structure of each class session consists of three components: (1) a presentation by the assigned student summarizing the reading, (2) a critical commentary by the designated discussant, and (3) a discussion involving the entire class. The instructor will provide additional explanations or clarifications as necessary. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | (1) Class Assignments: 5%*12=60%
Based on the assigned readings, each session may include short tasks to be completed before, during, or after class (e.g., summarizing class discussions or responding to questions on the readings). Students are required to submit these assignments.
(2) Contribution to Class Discussion: 10%
Students are expected to participate voluntarily and actively by sharing their views on the readings and research presentations in ways that stimulate further discussion among classmates.
(3) Presentations: 30%
Students will give a brief presentation on the assigned readings, covering the basic components of academic papers (e.g., research question, literature review, frameworks, methods and empirical arguments, and conclusion), and provide critical comments and questions from an academic perspective.
* Regular attendance is a prerequisite for the credit, and any absence must be in advance communicated to the lecturer. Failure to justify absences beyond three sessions will result in an automatic “F” for your grade.
* Plagiarized work of any kind or any other form of academic dishonesty (e.g., copying other student's assignments or AI generated answers) will result in an automatic “F” for your grade.
* Students are encouraged to use generative AI in a responsible manner. |

Study Load(Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours) | | (1) Before the class: Students must critically read the assigned materials, organize their opinions, prepare at least three questions in advance, and research basic information on the topic.
(2) During the class: Students are required to actively share their opinions and questions and engage in multiple rounds of discussion to deepen their understanding.
(3) After the class: Students are strongly encouraged to review key concepts and frameworks covered in the session. |
