Goals of the Course | | | This is a basic course on macroeconomics. Parallel to addressing the historical development of economic institutions, such as currencies, central banks, and exchange rate regimes, the course explains how these developments have shaped the theories and accounting identities that we use to understand and quantify economic forces. Particular emphasis is put on contrasting classical macroeconomic theory with modern microfounded modeling. Throughout the course, students have to analyze real world data, to develop a feeling how key economic indicators vary over time and across different countries. |

Objectives of the Course(JPN) | | | Students will be familiarized with the system of national accounts, and will develop an understanding of the economic forces that determine interest rates, inflation, exchange rates, and economic growth. After successful completion of this course, students will be able to interpret macroeconomic data, and to contribute to the public debate on monetary policy, trade policy, and growth policy. |

Course Prerequisites and Related Courses | | | Prior knowledge of differential calculus is expected. This course includes classroom discussions and student presentations, and thus a sufficient command of spoken English is required. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | Each students has to give an oral presentation of homework results at least once, and must be able to respond to questions from the audience. In the final exam, students have to analyze problems similar to the ones discussed in class. An overall score of 60/100 is required to pass.
Student Presentations: 50%
Final Exam: 50% |
