授業の目的 【日本語】
Goals of the Course(JPN) | | | 本講義では、生態学および行動生態学を、地球惑星科学における生物圏理解の基盤として体系的に学ぶことを目的とする。まず、自然淘汰説を出発点として、最適戦略や進化的安定戦略といった理論的枠組みを理解し、生物の形質がどのような原理によって形成されてきたのかを学ぶ。次に、社会の進化、性淘汰、生活史といった個体レベルの適応戦略を扱い、種内競争や個体群動態を通じて個体群レベルのプロセスへと視野を広げる。さらに、種間相互作用を含む群集レベルの現象を理解したうえで、環境と生態の関係を複数の時空間スケールから考察する。講義後半では、人間活動が生態系や野生動物に与える影響とその保全について取り上げ、生態学的知見が地球環境問題や保全政策にどのように結びつくのかを理解する。最終的に、生態学を地球システムの一部として統合的に捉える視点を身につけることを目標とする。 |

授業の目的 【英語】
Goals of the Course | | | This course aims to provide a systematic understanding of ecology and behavioral ecology as a foundation for understanding the biosphere within Earth and planetary sciences. Beginning with the theory of natural selection, the course introduces theoretical frameworks such as optimal strategies and evolutionarily stable strategies, and examines the principles by which biological traits have been shaped. It then focuses on individual-level adaptive strategies, including the evolution of social behavior, sexual selection, and life-history strategies, before expanding the perspective to population-level processes through topics such as intraspecific competition and population dynamics. Building on this foundation, the course addresses community-level phenomena, including interspecific interactions, and examines the relationships between environment and ecology across multiple temporal and spatial scales. In the latter part of the course, attention is given to the impacts of human activities on ecosystems and wildlife, as well as to wildlife conservation, in order to understand how ecological knowledge is linked to global environmental issues and conservation policy. Ultimately, the goal of this course is to develop an integrated perspective that views ecology as an essential component of the Earth system. |

Objectives of the Course | | | Through this course, students will acquire an understanding of the fundamental concepts of ecology and behavioral ecology, and develop a perspective that views the biosphere as a component of the Earth system. Based on theoretical frameworks grounded in natural selection, students will be able to explain the principles by which biological traits and behaviors have evolved. They will also expand their understanding from individual-level adaptive strategies to population- and community-level processes, and cultivate the ability to examine interactions between organisms and their environment across multiple temporal and spatial scales. Furthermore, students will gain a foundational ability to understand the impacts of human activities on ecosystems and wildlife, and to connect ecological knowledge with global environmental issues and wildlife conservation. |
