我が国はその地形的，地理的理由などから多種多様な自然災害に見舞われる国であり，安全で安心な社会を実現することが必要不可欠である．本講義では自然災害の基礎的知識および物理的および社会的環境における防災・減災のための方法および技術を幅広く学ぶことを目的とする．

Goals of the Course
Realizing a safe and secure society is an essential issue for Japan, as the country is prone to a wide variety of natural disasters due to its geographical and topographical characteristics. This course aims to provide a broad understanding of the fundamental aspects of natural disasters, as well as methodologies and technologies for enhancing resistance and resilience to natural disasters in both physical and social environments.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- understand and explain the basic characteristics of natural disasters, includig their causes and impacts, and
- understand and explain structural (hardware) and non-structural (software) countermeasures against natural disasters.

The lectures cover various fields of civil engineering, such as structural and materials, geotechnical, hydraulic and coastal, planning and trasportation, and environmental engineering.

Course Content
以下の内容に関する講義を実施する．
1) 自然災害からの教訓（概論）
2) 土木構造物における自然災害とその対策技術（構造材料系）
3) 地盤・盛土における自然災害とその対策技術（地盤系）
4) 河川・沿岸域における自然災害とその対策技術（水工系）
5) 自然災害に対する都市・交通システム（計画系）
6) 自然災害による環境問題とその対策技術（環境系）

各回の授業の後，レポート作成することを課す．
授業の内容【英語】
Course Content
The course will consist of lectures on the following topics:
1) Lessons from natural disasters (overview)
2) Natural disasters and their countermeasures in civil engineering structures (structural and materials field)
3) Natural disasters and their countermeasures in geotechnical engineering structures (geotechnical field)
4) Natural disasters and their countermeasures in rivers and coastal areas (hydraulic and coastal field)
5) Urban and transportation systems for natural disaster reduction (planning and transportation field)
6) Environmental problems caused by natural disasters and their countermeasures (environmental field)

A report will be assigned at the end of each class.
成績評価の方法と基準【日本語】
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
出席とレポートの合計点によって評価する．
各レポートでは，講義で対象にした自然災害の特徴，対策技術などに関する設問に対して適切にこたえられていれば６割の点数とするとともに，例えば将来の対応や他の災害事例との比較などより深い考察がなされていれば成績に加点する．
成績評価の方法と基準【英語】
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Grades will be determined based on attendance and the total score of all reports.
For each report, 60% of the score will be awarded if the student appropriately answers questions on the characteristics of and countermeasures against the natural disasters covered in the lecture and related topics. Additional points will be awarded for deeper analysis, such as consideration of future responses or comparisons with other disaster cases.
