Goals of the Course(JPN)
Goals of the Course
The purpose of this course is to develop students' ability to present and critically discuss their own research in the field of bio-system engineering. Students are expected to independently survey relevant literature, compare their research with recent advances in the field, clarify the significance and originality of their work, and propose future research directions. Students will present their research in English and are encouraged to actively participate in discussions and question-and-answer sessions in English. Through these activities, students will develop logical thinking, problem-solving, scientific communication, and research presentation skills required for researchers and engineers.
Objectives of the Course(JPN))
Objectives of the Course
By completing this course, students will be able to:
1. Logically organize and present their own research in English, including its background, objectives, methods, results, and discussion.
2. Independently search for recent scientific literature relevant to their research and appropriately incorporate it into the background and interpretation of their research findings.
3. Compare their research findings with previous studies and recent advances in the field and explain the positioning, significance, originality, and limitations of their research.
4. Propose future research questions and directions based on their research findings, literature survey, and scientific discussions.
5. Understand the research presented by other students and actively participate in questions, comments, and discussions in English.

Course Content

Course Content
To achieve the course objectives, students will present and discuss their own research in English in a seminar format.

Each research presentation should be logically organized to include the research background, objectives, methods, results, and discussion. Relevant scientific papers and recent advances should not be presented as an independent literature review. Instead, they should be incorporated into the introduction and other appropriate parts of the research presentation to clarify the background, significance, and positioning of the student's research.

For each research discussion, students are expected to independently survey relevant literature and compare their findings with previous studies and recent research trends. Based on this comparison, students should critically evaluate the significance and limitations of their current results and propose possible future research directions.

Research presentations will, in principle, be given in English, and students are strongly encouraged to conduct questions and discussions in English. All participants are also expected to actively listen to the presentations of other students, understand their research, and contribute to the seminar by asking questions, providing comments, and participating in discussions, preferably in English.
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Students will be evaluated based on their research presentations and their participation in questions and discussions.

Research presentations will be evaluated in terms of understanding of the student's own research, logical organization, survey of relevant literature and recent research trends, positioning and interpretation of the research findings, proposal of future research directions, and ability to communicate the research in English.

Participation in questions and discussions will be evaluated based on the student's understanding of other students' research, the quality of questions and comments, and active contribution to constructive scientific discussions. Active participation in questions and discussions in English is encouraged.

The final grade will be based on research presentations (50%) and participation in questions and discussions (50%). A score of 60 or higher out of 100 is required to pass the course.
