Goals of the Course(JPN)

Goals of the Course
The purpose of this course is to develop the skills required to independently conduct research in biosystem engineering through literature surveys, experimental planning, development and implementation of experimental methods, data analysis, and validation of research findings.

Students are expected to independently survey recent scientific literature related to their research, design appropriate experimental plans, and propose and implement new experimental approaches when necessary. Students will also develop the ability to appropriately analyze and interpret experimental data and to propose subsequent research questions and experimental plans based on their findings.

In addition, students will learn the principles of research ethics and responsible research conduct, including appropriate research documentation, data management, and research integrity.

Course Content

Course Content
Week 1: Training in research ethics and research integrityStudents will learn the principles of research ethics, research integrity, appropriate research documentation, data management, and responsible handling of research results.

Weeks 2–15: Iterative experimentation, data analysis, and refinement of research plansStudents will continuously survey recent scientific literature relevant to their individual research projects and define research objectives and hypotheses based on current knowledge and their previous findings.

Students will design and conduct experiments and, when necessary, investigate, propose, and introduce new experimental or analytical methods. Experimental data will be analyzed and interpreted promptly, and the hypotheses, experimental conditions, and subsequent experimental plans will be revised based on the obtained results.

This iterative cycle of literature survey and planning, experimentation, data analysis, validation, and refinement of the research plan will be repeated continuously according to the progress of each research project. Weekly research reports will be used to review recent findings and plan subsequent experiments, while monthly research reports will be used to evaluate overall progress, identify research challenges, and reconsider future research directions.
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Compliance with research ethics and research integrity is a fundamental requirement for evaluation in this course.

Students will be evaluated based on weekly and monthly research reports and on their overall research process.

Research reports will be evaluated in terms of the logical and appropriate documentation of research objectives, experimental plans, experimental procedures, obtained data, data analysis, discussion, and subsequent research plans.

The research process will be evaluated based on literature surveys, experimental planning, proposal and implementation of new experimental methods, appropriate research documentation, analysis and validation of experimental data, and development of subsequent research plans based on the obtained results.

The final grade will be based on weekly and monthly research reports (50%) and the research process, including experimental planning, execution, and data analysis (50%). A score of 60 or higher out of 100 is required to pass the course.
