授業の目的 【英語】 Goals of the Course | | This course introduces students to basic theories and approaches in international development studies with a particular focus on ‘poverty’ through reviewing basic and alternative on theories/perspectives, policies and approaches of poverty and its alleviation as well as wellbeing. We explore the following inquiries to enrich
our understanding of poverty and wellbeing:
1) Who are “the poor” and why are they “poor”? What are their realities?
2) What are poverty and well-being? How have they been defined and measured?
3) What are development theories and post-development perspectives behind such
definitions, measurements, and social implementations?
4) What are alternative social designs (policies and projects) to create a “better world
without poverty”, that would not only rely on economic growth? |
