Goals of the Course(JPN) | | | 本授業は、ドイツ（フライブルク大学中心）とフランス（モンペリエ、マルセイユ）とを舞台に、現地実地学習と多文化共修を通じて「持続可能性」を都市・地域の具体的な仕組みとして理解することを目的とします。文化遺産の保存と都市開発、再生可能エネルギーと交通・都市デザイン、自然資源の長期管理、そして地産地消・循環型ビジネスによる食環境などを、現場観察・調査・討論・整理（可視化）を通して総合的に学びます。さらに、多国籍の学生・研究者との交流機会を活かし、国や文化の違いを踏まえた国際的視点と協働力を養い、将来のプロジェクト形成につながる「グリーン・リーダーシップ」の基礎を身につけます。 |

Goals of the Course | | | This course is a field-based program in Germany (University of Freiburg and surrounding areas) and France (Montpellier, Carcassonne, Marseille) that foregrounds multicultural co-learning as the core learning approach. Through on-site observation, investigation, discussion, and documentation/visualization, students examine: (1) the coexistence of cultural heritage and urban development, (2) low-carbon urban structures driven by renewable energy, transit, and urban design, (3) long-term management of natural resources, and (4) sustainable food environments supported by local production/consumption and circular business models. The course also includes cross-cultural learning with students and experts from various European countries, cultivating international perspectives, collaboration skills, and the foundations of green leadership for future projects. |

Objectives of the Course | | By the end of this course, students will aim to:
- Explain conditions under which cultural heritage preservation and urban renewal can coexist, considering urban structure, tourism, and social sustainability.
- Describe how renewable energy, transit (tram), and walkable/cyclable urban design interact to support low-carbon cities.
- Analyze the balance between use and conservation of natural resources (forests, geothermal and water resources) through governance, management, and landscape perspectives.
- Conduct evidence-based discussions using field observations and collected materials, and communicate outcomes through documentation/visualization.
- Collaborate in a multicultural setting and integrate different viewpoints to propose directions for sustainable solutions. |

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan | | 本授業は、ドイツ・フライブルク大学およびその周辺地域におけるサステナビリティ研究を目的とし、現地でのワークショップ、調査、討論を基本単位として実施する。異なるテーマからなる4つのプロジェクトについて、見学・現地調査や講義の受講を行い、その後、参加者同士の討論や現地研究者,学生、地域専門家などとの議論を通して内容を整理し、理解を深める。
渡航前には、フライブルク大学との事前説明会、事例研究の勉強会、海外派遣安全教育など（計4回・各1.5時間）を実施し、帰国後には最終発表会を行う。現地で実施する予定のプロジェクトは以下の通りである。
プロジェクト1：文化遺産と都市設計
モンペリエ、カルカッソンヌ、マルセイユを比較し、文化遺産の保存と都市開発が両立する条件を多文化チームで整理・可視化する。
プロジェクト2：環境保全と都市開発
フライブルク周辺を対象に、再生可能エネルギー、公共交通、森林・水資源管理が連動する低炭素型都市と自然地域の相互依存を理解する。
プロジェクト3：循環型社会と持続可能な食環境
産直市場、オーガニック企業、農村を横断的に調査し、地産地消と循環型ビジネスが都市の食環境を支える仕組みを多文化的視点で捉える。
プロジェクト4：持続可能性と多文化共修
欧州各国の学生・研究者と協働し、地域差を踏まえた持続可能性の課題と解決策を共同で構想し、国際的視野と協働力を養う。 | This course aims to study sustainability at the University of Freiburg and in the surrounding region in Germany, and is conducted through on-site workshops, field research, and discussions as core components. Students engage in four projects on different themes, which include site visits, field investigations, and lectures, followed by discussions among participants and exchanges with local researchers, students to organize findings and deepen learning.
Before departure, students participate in preparatory sessions with the University of Freiburg, case study workshops, and overseas safety training (four sessions, 1.5 hours each). After returning, a final presentation session is held.
Project 1: Cultural Heritage and Urban Design
Students compare Montpellier, Carcassonne, and Marseille to examine how cultural heritage preservation and urban development can coexist.
Project 2: Environmental Protection and Urban Development
Focusing on the Freiburg region, students explore how renewable energy, public transport, and natural resource management contribute to low-carbon cities.
Project 3: Circular Society and Sustainable Food Environments
Students investigate farmers’ markets, organic enterprises, and rural areas to understand how local production and circular business models support sustainable urban food systems.
Project 4: Sustainability and Multicultural Co-learning
In collaboration with students and researchers from across Europe, participants address region-specific sustainability challenges and develop solutions from a multicultural perspective. |

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | | 成績は、事前学習、現地研修・フィールドワーク、グループワークおよび発表、帰国後の最終発表・レポートへの取り組みを総合的に評価する。主体的な参加姿勢、協働への貢献度、環境・サステナビリティに関する理解の深さを重視する。 | | Grades are based on overall performance in pre-departure preparation, on-site training and fieldwork, group work and presentations, and the final presentation and report after returning. Emphasis is placed on active participation, contribution to teamwork, and depth of understanding of environmental sustainability. |
