Goals of the Course(JPN) | | 【授業の目的】この授業のテーマは「東南アジアの都市化」である。近年の東南アジア諸国では急激に都市化が進行し、多様な社会課題が研究の論点として注目を集めている。都市化に伴う生活様式や社会関係の変化、格差・不平等、ジェンダー、移動・移民、環境ガバナンス等の論点に関する代表的な論文を講読し、日本社会との比較も視野に入れて、東南アジアにおける都市化の特徴や多様性に関する理解を深めることがこの授業の目的である。

The theme of this course is “Urbanization in Southeast Asia.” In recent years, Southeast Asian countries have experienced rapid urbanization, drawing attention to diverse social issues as research topics. The purpose of this course is to deepen understanding of the characteristics and diversity of urbanization in Southeast Asia. This will be achieved by reading reputable papers on topics such as changes in lifestyles and social relations accompanying urbanization, disparities and inequality, gender, migration, and environmental governance in Southeast Asian countries, while also considering comparisons with contemporary Japanese society...

授業の内容や構成
Course Content / Plan | | 【授業の構成】最初の授業で東南アジアの都市化に関する近年の研究動向についてガイダンス的な講義を行う。その後は分担を決めてテキストを講読し、東南アジアの都市化の特徴や地域的多様性、日本をはじめとした東アジアとの異同について討議する。主要な論点は下記の通り。
1 東南アジアにおける都市化の理論化
中心・周辺関係の変化、アーバンフリンジの変容、比較都市論など
2 移住と社会的ネットワーク
移民の階層分化、移民とジェンダー、周辺層の社会的ネットワーク
3 開発と環境ガバナンス
メガシティ論、資源管理や文化遺産をめぐるポリティクス、都市の社会運動
4 気候変動の影響と適応
途上国におけるグリーンインフラ、エコDRR、国際資源管理認証
【授業時間外学習の指示】授業開始時までに所定の論文を必ず熟読し、論点を整理しておくこと | Structure of the seminar:
In the first class, I will provide an introductory lecture on recent research trends concerning urbanization in Southeast Asia. Subsequently, students will be assigned sections of the textbook to read and discuss the characteristics and regional diversity of urbanization in Southeast Asia, as well as its similarities and differences with East Asia, including Japan. The main points of discussion are as follows..
1. Theorizing Urbanization in Southeast Asia
Changes in center-periphery relations, transformation of urban fringes, comparative urban theory, etc.
2. Migration and Social Networks
Stratification of migrants, migration and gender, social networks of peripheral groups
3. Development and Environmental Governance
Megacity theory, politics surrounding resource management and cultural heritage, urban social movements
4. Impacts of Climate Change and Adaptation
Green infrastructure, eco-DRR, international resource management certification in Southeast Asian context.
Students are requested to read every article in advance. |

成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria | | ・報告、ディスカッションへの貢献、期末レポートによって評価する。
・期末レポートは、社会学の観点から東南アジアの都市化やそれに付随する社会課題を論じるものとする。
・ディスカッションへの「貢献」とは、テーマへの理解を深めるような問いや意見を発することを指す。
・報告30%、ディスカッションへの貢献30%、期末レポート40%で点数をつけ、100点満点で60点以上を合格とする。 | - Evaluation is based on presentation (30%), contribution to discussion (30%) and final report (40%). The score above or equal to 60 is required for credits.
- Theme of final report is to discuss challenges of urbanization in Southeast Asian countries from the viewpoint of sociology.
- Contribution to discussion means making useful remarks on the issues. |
