Goals of the Course
The purpose of this course is to develop students' ability to present and critically discuss their own research in biosystem engineering in English. Students are expected to continuously survey recent scientific literature, compare their research with international advances in the field, and clarify the positioning, significance, originality, and limitations of their work. They will also develop the ability to propose future research directions based on their findings and scientific discussions.

As a doctoral-level seminar, the course also aims to develop the ability to organize research findings into a coherent scientific story suitable for international dissemination, including manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals and oral or poster presentations at international conferences. Through research presentations and discussions in English, students will develop advanced logical thinking, problem-solving, scientific communication, and research dissemination skills required for independent researchers.

Course Content

Course Content
To achieve the course objectives, students will present and discuss their own research in English in a seminar format.

Each research presentation should be logically organized to include the research background, objectives, methods, results, and discussion. Relevant scientific papers and recent advances should not be presented as an independent literature review. Instead, they should be incorporated into the Introduction, Discussion, and other appropriate parts of the research presentation to clarify the background, positioning, significance, and originality of the student's research.

For each research discussion, students are expected to continuously survey recent scientific literature and compare their findings with previous studies and international research trends. Based on this comparison, students should critically evaluate the significance, originality, limitations, and remaining challenges of their research and propose future research directions.

As a doctoral-level seminar, students will also consider how to organize their research findings into a coherent scientific story for publication, including the appropriate structure of figures, Introduction, Results, and Discussion sections. Students will also prepare oral or poster presentations for international conferences and develop the ability to clearly and effectively communicate the significance and originality of their research within a limited presentation time.

Questions and critical comments obtained through seminar discussions should be used to improve subsequent experiments, data analysis, research directions, and manuscript organization.

Research presentations will, in principle, be given in English, and students are strongly encouraged to conduct questions and discussions in English. All participants are expected to actively listen to the presentations of other students, understand their research from a professional perspective, and contribute to the seminar by asking questions, providing comments, and participating in discussions in English.

Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Students will be evaluated based on their research presentations, participation in questions and discussions, and preparation of their research findings for international scientific dissemination.

Research presentations will be evaluated in terms of understanding of the student's own research, logical organization, survey of relevant literature and recent research trends, positioning, significance, and originality of the research findings, proposal of future research directions, and ability to communicate the research in English.

Participation in questions and discussions will be evaluated based on the student's professional understanding of other students' research, the quality of questions and comments, critical thinking, and active contribution to constructive scientific discussions. Active participation in English will also be evaluated.

Preparation for international scientific dissemination will be evaluated based on the ability to develop a coherent scientific story, organize manuscripts and figures, and prepare research findings for effective communication at international conferences and other scientific venues.

The final grade will be based on research presentations (40%), participation in questions and discussions (30%), and preparation and organization of research findings for manuscripts and international conference presentations (30%). A score of 60 or higher out of 100 is required to pass the course.
