Goals of the Course [JPN]
本コースの主な目標は2つである。まず、(i)すべての学問分野の学生に必要な学力を身につけ、さらに (ii)すべての専門職に対して汎用性のある学力を身につけることを目的としている。同時に本コースは、従来の教室型授業から発想を転換した一般教養教育の実践を通して、学生のアクティブ・ラーニングを促進し、思考、コミュニケーション、リーダーシップに対する自信を養うことを目指す。
授業の目的 【英語】
Goals of the Course [ENG]
The primary goal of this course is twofold. On the one hand, it aims to foster learning the academic skills that are (i) NECESSARY for students of all academic disciplines and (ii) TRANSFERABLE to all professional careers. On the other hand, it aims to transform general education outside the conventional classroom setting so that a suitable learning environment can be created to promote students’ active learning and develop their self-confidence in thinking, communication, and leadership.

本集中講座(4日間)を通して、受講生は以下の主要な学術的・専門的スキルを身につけることを目標とします。
1. 学術研究において論理的かつ批判的に思考する力
2. 英語で自信を持って効果的に考えを伝える力
3. チーム型学習環境において生産的に協働する力
4. 多様な文化・人種・国籍を持つ人々と敬意をもって効果的に協力する力

これらのスキルの育成を支えるため、本コースでは、思考力・コミュニケーション力・リーダーシップに対する自信を高める、前向きで支援的な学習環境を重視しています。

Objectives of the Course [ENG]
By the end of this four-day intensive course, students will develop key academic and professional skills, including the ability to:
1. Think logically and critically for academic research
2. Communicate ideas effectively and confidently in English
3. Collaborate productively in team-based learning environments
4. Work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, racial, and national backgrounds

To support the development of these skills, the course fosters a positive and supportive learning environment designed to build students’ confidence in thinking, communication, and leadership.

Course Content or Plan
This is an intensive course that will be conducted outside Nagoya University.

Course location: National Shinshu Takato Youth Outdoor Learning Center
(国立信州高遠青少年自然の家)

Course period: 21st – 24th August 2026 (four days and three nights)

Course content:
Session 1: Introduction to the course. (To be carried out on a date before departure)
Session 2: Camp orientation. (Day 1)
Session 3: Workshop on academic writing and logical thinking. (Day 1)
Session 4: Student teamwork – 1. (Day 1)
Session 5: Student teamwork – 2. (Day 1)
Session 6: Workshop on thesis statement. (Day 2)
Session 7: Student teamwork – 3. (Day 2)
Session 8: Student teamwork – 4. (Day 2)
Session 9: Workshop on logical argumentation. (Day 3)
Session 10: Student teamwork – 5. (Day 3)
Session 11: Student teamwork – 6. (Day 3)
Session 12: Workshop on research ethics. (Day 4)
Session 13: Student teamwork – 7. (Day 4)
Session 14: Final presentation (Day 4)
Session 15: Review and reflections (Day 4)
履修条件・関連する科目
Course Prerequisites and Related Courses
(i) Year 3 or above.
(ii) Students who can communicate in English.
成績評価の方法と基準
Course Evaluation Method and Criteria
Student performance will be evaluated based on (i) teamwork (50%), (ii) final presentation (50%).
Students who need the course credits are required to complete both (i) and (ii).

Achievement of the objectives stated in the [Objectives of the Course] section will be considered the criterion for passing the course.

Study Load (Self-directed Learning Outside Course Hours)
Outside of class hours, all students will participate in group activities, such as team sports and other leisure activities, to promote teamwork and active learning.

(i) This course is very popular! If you have decided to apply for it, you are advised to send the application as early as possible to secure a place.
(ii) The maximum capacity of the course is 24 students. The application might close early once application numbers exceed the maximum capacity.
(iii) Transportation is free of charge. But please bring around 20,000 yen to the camp. It will cover all the necessary expenses, including accommodation, all meals, drinks, travel insurance, etc.
(iv) To apply for the course, you are required to complete the following steps:
(i) Send an email to me to request a course application form.
(ii) Fill out the application form and send it back.
